Hey rock fans! I’ve had such a busy summer and have so much to tell you about! I’m way behind so I might as well start at the beginning with a weekend of rock that blew my mind. Rock the Shores is a rock festival that takes place in Colwood, BC annually in July…well, at least for the past 3 years. I went last year and this year I attended in a slightly different capacity. This year I decided to do my part and volunteer. These events are dependent on the many people who give of their time to ensure everyone in attendance has a great time. Besides, it got me inside the gates for free and allowed me to be useful.
It ran from Friday to Sunday, July 11 – 13. Friday, I had to work at my paying job but that didn’t stop me from enjoying the show that evening. Although I missed some great acts during the day, I was able to catch Gord Downie, The Cult and Tom Cochrane with Red Rider. Those acts alone were well worth the trip!
Gord Downie is a favorite of mine. I’ve been a fan of The Tragically Hip for more than 20 years and though he was there fronting The Sadies and not the Hip, his charisma and professionalism shines through every performance he gives regardless of the project he’s working with and is never disappointing.
It was my first time catching The Cult and my fanship goes back more than 30 years for this band. I was awestruck to be in the same vicinity as Ian Astbury! What a fucking show!
My favorite part of the night was the headliner, Tom Cochrane and Red Rider. I have caught this band in the past and it doesn’t seem to matter what decade their playing in, their show is always full of energy and some of the best tunes ever written. I was thrilled when they played one of my all time favorite songs. Let me share it with you. Those of you who know me personally may think it was written for me. It wasn’t but I’m sure the reason I love it is because I relate to it so much!
THE UNTOUCHABLE ONE
He played this one as well as crowd favorites such as Big League and Life is a Highway. There’s nothing like 10,000+ voices singing along at a rock show, and yes, mine was definitely one of them…… ; )
